Circles of Influence
David Henderson pastors Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette, Indiana, near the campus of Purdue University. A long-time mentee of Leighton Ford, they first met at a conference in Dallas in 1984, drawn together by their mutual losses. Leighton was grieving his son Sandy’s death, and David had lost both of his parents in an accident a few years before. Later, David saw Leighton again as a student at Gordon Conwell, picking him up at the airport for a board meeting. Their lives have intersected almost annually since then. Leighton has helped David grow in freedom in several areas of life, and David continues mentoring others, multiplying the lines of influence. What rich investments come when we listen to one another’s hearts.
A Ministry of Listening
We just completed a training event this past week for potential mentors at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Ten pastors and some LFM staff gathered to learn from Leighton and others about the ministry of listening – to the Lord and to each other as we seek to bless and impact lives for the kingdom. Will you pray for those who attended, that they will stay close to Jesus Christ, allowing Him to work through them to lead and care for others in the ministry of spiritual mentoring? The great Shepherd reminds us, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish” (John 10:27-28 NIV).
