Do I Have to Do This Alone?

Sometimes we get into the greatest trouble when we think it’s all on us.

Receiving the mantle after Moses, Joshua was commanded three times to ‘be strong and courageous’; this was God addressing the specific fear Joshua carried as he faced a calling bigger than anything he had walked before. This Friday on LiveCalled Today, LFM’s Jim Singleton, our Director of Discipling Ministries, takes us to the call of Joshua in the Old Testament. Facing the daunting task of replacing Moses and providing leadership to the nation of Israel, Joshua had good reason for fear. But God continued reminding him to be courageous, because “the LORD your God will be with you” (Joshua 1:9 NIV). Joshua would not have to come up with all the answers on his own, but learn to lean more on his God.

PAUSE AND PRAY: Many centuries later, believers can face forward our own individual callings, knowing that God has promised us His constant presence. As you live out God’s call on your life this week, what daunting challenge sparks fear in your life? Be reminded today that you, too, can trust God, choose faith over fear, and be “strong and very courageous” (Joshua 1:7 NIV).

STAY TUNED: Next week, Jim Singleton walks us through Joshua at the Jordan River, where, in a leadership situation with no precendence, Joshua had to take a leap of faith.
