Everlasting Father
Welcome to the fourth Sunday of Advent with Mark McIlraith in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Mark and this congregation have worked with Kevin Ford on their mission and vision clarity. Mark is preaching a series on Isaiah’s Christmas. He focuses on the names of God from Isaiah 9: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Today he teaches about the “Everlasting Father”, skillfully using the end of Isaiah 40 to explain this phrase.
Praying for the King’s Servants
With all the church activities going on, December can be a stressful time for the families of pastors and church staff. Let’s pray this week for these servants of the King at the church where you worship. Ask the Lord to strengthen and encourage them. May the burden they carry rest on the Lord’s shoulders instead of theirs. And may they experience God this Christmas in a multitude of ways: “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6 NLT).
