Can You Really Hear God?
What does it mean to hear the voice of God?
We look at that today from the life of Samuel in the Old Testament. LFM Board Member Stephan Tchividjian, the Founder and President of the National Foundation of South Florida, and Billy Graham’s oldest grandson, shares God’s Word with us today from 1 Samuel 3.
God’s word came to Samuel in the night as a child, and had to be spoken three times before Samuel learned to say, “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:9 NIV). In a noisy world, the posture of listening must be cultivated. The Bible provides principles that guide us into the lifelong pursuit of following, listening to, and obeying God. Samuel had to seek discernment and be prepared to obey as he learned to be attentive. And in doing so, the boy who became Israel’s prophet learned to LiveCalled.
PAUSE AND PRAY
As you seek to live out your own calling, ask God to help you cultivate your own attentiveness to the Lord. Jesus said, describing His own relationship as the Shepherd of His sheep, “He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out. . . . And His sheep follow Him because they know His voice” (John 10:4 NIV).
STAY TUNED
Next week. Pete Della Santina walks us through the calling of Jonathan’s Armor Bearer, who, unnamed in scripture, still pledged his wholehearted presence in a costly moment.
