Sunday Extra – February 2nd, 2025

Jacob as a Disciple

Richard Gibbons serves as the pastor of a vibrant downtown church in Greenville, South Carolina. Years ago, Kevin Ford collaborated with this congregation on an impactful planning process, resulting in a thoughtful space and strategic focus that continues to shape the church today.

In this sermon, Richard reflects on the life of Jacob as a disciple. He delivers his message within the context of a Kirking of the Tartans service at a Texas church. Kirking of the Tartans is a tradition among Scottish descendants. As a Scottish native, Richard’s presence added a special touch to the Sunday celebration.

Ambassadors for Christ

J John, an evangelist and friend of LFM, is a minister, speaker, broadcaster and writer, who lives near London, England. He and his wife Killy recently hosted their annual conference with over 200 evangelists participating. These “ambassadors for Christ” came from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England and other parts of Europe. J also participates in LFM’s mentoring group called The Point Group.

Let’s pray for these many servants of Christ, as they have returned to their own ministries. As God has “committed to us the message of reconciliation,” may the Lord protect, encourage, enable, and equip them to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and invite others to “be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:19-20 NIV).

Last week’s Sunday Extra included a message Francis Collins gave at a Charlotte, North Carolina, prayer gathering. The book he referred to is called The Road to Wisdom: On Truth, Science, Faith, and Trust.
