John Stott – Power Through Weakness

Power Through Weakness

John Stott stood as a towering, impactful figure in Christianity across the world in the second half of the twentieth century. Julia Cameron writes, “As decades pass, history will further unfold the extent of his influence on theological thinking, on preaching, on the tensions between the gospel and culture, on the development of a Christian mind, on evangelical commitment to social justice, and supremely on world evangelization.”

Stott was a key influencer, along with Billy Graham and Leighton Ford, on the Lausanne Movement. Today, we have the privilege of hearing Stott’s message, “Power Through Weakness,” which he preached at the Keswick Convention 2000 in the United Kingdom. The esteemed preacher reminds us about leading with humility and not being lustful for power. He challenges listeners to recognize the grace of God at work in our lives.

The Lord’s Faithfulness

In recent years, LFM has partnered with Church United of South Florida, a Gospel-centered ministry which exists to strengthen the Church in their region. They invest in pastoral care, build cross-denominational relationships, and leverage tools and partnerships with a passion to see churches and cities thrive.

This fall, we will be starting six new cohorts, representing a number of congregations all over South Florida. Please pray this week for LFM staffer Rhett Wilson and Church United’s David Rosa as they lead a meeting this week in South Florida for African American and Hispanic pastors who will be leading these cohorts. As we do, let’s remember Jesus’ prayer in John 17: “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me” (21 NLT).
