No Longer Strangers
Today we invite Corey Widmer again to our Sunday Extra pulpit. Corey has partnered with LFM for leadership development and coaching at Third Church in Richmond, Virginia. He and Jim Singleton lead a mentoring group together. Today he shares about the nature of the church – a place where we are “No Longer Strangers.” LFM staffers often talk about Leighton’s mantra of “Safe Times, Safe People, and Safe Places.” Corey hopes their church will be just that, while recognizing we all have a lot of work to do along the journey.
Praying for Churches
Let’s pray for Third Church today. And while we do, why don’t we each pray for our own churches? In Jesus’ high priestly prayer found in John 17, he prayed earnestly for his disciples – and everyone who would ever believe in Him. Our Lord’s words offer a wonderful example as we pray for churches today:
“They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; Your Word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:16-21, NIV).
