What Happens When You Lead Poorly?
What catastrophes occur when one leader bows to his own need for approval?
That’s what we look at in this Friday’s LiveCalled Today. These five weeks interrupt the calling stories deliberately. Before we can fully receive what comes next, we need to look honestly at what gets in the way: “There but for the grace of God go I.” Each of these figures was genuinely called and genuinely derailed. The obstacle that undid them is not exotic. It lives in every leader, every church, every community – including ours.
Today, LFM board member and friend, Stephan Tchividjian, takes us to Exodus 32, to see an epic failure of a God-appointed leader. Aaron, the high priest, was called by God to stand before Him, representing the divine to the people. However, Aaron’s desire to be liked and his fear of the crowd led to compromise that ended in disaster.

PAUSE AND PRAY
We all at some level desire to be liked, affirmed, and appreciated. But at times those desires can loom larger than our need to respect, trust, and obey God. Where in your life or ministry might you be giving people what they want, rather than what they need like Aaron did? Or where are you tempted to compromise God’s Word for the sake of pleasing people or fitting into culture? Aaron’s story is not about an evil person. It’s about a good priest who cared more about disappointing the crowd than pleasing God.
