The Way It Is
Our friend Anne Grizzle gave me a copy of Leading from Within, a fine book of essays by various leaders with their favorite poems. Well worth reading!
Here’s one by William Stafford that seems very appropriate for reflection as we begin this new year.
I hope it may encourage you to pay attention to that “thread” which God is weaving through your life, the voice of his calling through all the changes that may come in the days ahead.
With friendship,
Leighton
The Way It Is
There’s a thread that you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
