The Lord at Eastertide
I had never (until this week) noticed that Jesus is not addressed (in John’s Gospel) as “Lord” or “Master” until the last two chapters – after he had risen.
Then he is called “Lord” fourteen times!
What is this Lord like?
Read again the lovely story (in John 20) of Mary Magdalene coming to the tomb in the early and dark morning.
The Lord Jesus speaks to her three times:
“Why are you weeping?”
He is the Lord who notices our tears – this is Mary’s (and my) comfort.
“Mary”
He is the Lord who knows our name – this is Mary’s (and my) identity.
“Go and tell my brothers …”
He is the Lord who needs our testimony – this is Mary’s (and my) calling.
This Eastertide, may the risen Lord turn us from an empty tomb, to an overflowing heart!
