Advent Attitude

June 20, 2014

So – Advent is here .. and are you looking forward to it – or dreading it?

Last Sunday was Advent Sunday as churches throughout the world focus on the coming again of the Lord.

But I wonder – with the frenzied activities that usually fill our lives during this season – if Jesus did (does) come, would (will) we be too tired to enjoy him?

Here are thoughts from two wise philosophers (sent by acquaintances) that give us some wisdom for living in Advent.

On stillness: from Soren Kierkegaard:

It is difficult for a camel to go through the eye of a needle and difficult for the man of the world to find stillness; whether he is powerful or insignificant, it is difficult to find stillness in life’s noise … But you, my listener, if you fear this stillness, even though you are doing your best to have a conscience (without stillness conscience does not exist at all) and to have a good conscience, then keep on, then endure it; this stillness is not … the sickness unto death … it is the transition to life. (Sent by Ted Schroeder)

On busyness: from Dallas Willard
God never gives anyone too much to do. We do that to ourselves or allow others to do it to us. (Sent by Steve Moore)
So if you see me, or talk to me, during the next few weeks, you might ask if I am still enough and unbusy enough to welcome the Lord!
