Palm Sunday
Gavin Felix is the pastor of New Springs Church in Coral Springs, Florida. He participates in one of our Transforming Church Cohorts, sponsored through a grant from the Lilly Endowment. We are privileged at LFM to have received two grants from the Lilly Endowment to support the work we are doing as we mentor healthy leaders and coach thriving ministries. Gavin’s cohort is in partnership with the CityChangers Movement and Church United in South Florida. This sermon is from a previous Palm Sunday during the midst of the pandemic.
Helping Ukrainian Refugees
LFM is happy to endorse United World Mission’s (UWM) Ukrainian efforts through their somewhat underground network of missionaries, seminaries, and churches, many which have become ministry camps for refugees. Funds given through UWM are dispersed as needed through their network. They house, feed, and care for refugees while getting them to safe places outside of Ukraine.
One recent example was their effort to help mothers with disabled children who cannot walk long distances. UWM partnered with Joni and Friends to hire a bus and driver to evacuate mothers and children to a renovated home for disabled children in the Netherlands. There is a link on this page where you can give directly to UWM.
As of last week, one-fourth of the nation is homeless and jobless. Most of the seminaries in their network are working to save lives, evacuate people, provide housing, and serve as a transition hub. Today, let’s pray for the needs of disabled persons needing to leave Ukraine as well as for the millions of people now without homes and jobs. As we pray, remember the promise of Psalm 34:18, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (ESV).
