Remembering Iry Chambers
Today, September 4, is the first anniversary of the death of my long time dear friend and associate in ministry, Irv. I still miss him every day.
Irv and I first met fifty-three plus years ago in Orillia, Ontario, where he led the music for our crusade – and that began a partnership that continued across so many years.
I remember so well,
his love for Jesus
his love for his family
his humor
and his servant spirit
I have and will always prize one of his Bible – a blue thin-line NIV which he was given at Taylor University.
Marilyn gave it to me when he died… and as I thumbed through I found only one verse marked: Mark 10:45 where Jesus sits down with the twelve and tells them
“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
Irv did more than mark that passage. He lived it. And that is a legacy I pray will live on in all of us who knew him.
Your friend on the journey (as Irv was),
Leighton
